This is how I managed to do Swiss German spell checking with Emacs. In my .emacs file I introduced a spell checking section.
;;;; Set Language for Spell Checking (setq ispell-dictionary "de_CH")
I made sure that I installed the necessary dictionaries.
ls /usr/lib/aspell | grep de_CH de_CH.alias de_CH.multi de_CH-neu.multi de_CH-only.rws
Finally I could check spelling saying
